Local athletes honored for success at Maccabi Games
      Swimmer Lindsay Schwartz spends much of her time competing, as a coach, club athlete and varsity swimmer at Calabasas High School. But after two years swimming for Team Los Angeles at the Maccabi Games, Lindsay knows that the Maccabi meet is about more than winning.

Volleyball league gearing up
      The United States Youth Volleyball League is accepting online registrations for the spring 2007 season. The eightweek league begins in April. Games are played at Wildflower Playfields in Thousand Oaks, Deerhill Park in Oak Park and Walnut Elementary School in Newbury Park.

Registration opens for spring T-ball, coach pitch
Programs for kids 5 to 8 years old
      The city of Calabasas Community Services Department is accepting registration for the spring 2007 T-ball league for 5 and 6 year olds, and coach pitch league, for children ages 7 and 8. The leagues run from March 31 through June 9. Ages are determined as of April 1.

Jr. Lakers basketball sign-ups open
      EAGER TO PLAY- Taylor Laska , 12, of Oak Park, is happy to watch his dad, Jeff, sign him up for Jr. Lakers basketball season at Agoura High School recently. The league, for boys and girls ages 5 to 14, will accept sign-ups through March 1 at the Triunfo YMCA. For information, call (818) 707-YMCA.

Chili Peppers scorch the competition
      BEST OF THE BUNCH- The Red Hot Chili Peppers girls' soccer team finished in third place at last weekend's Coyote Classic in Victorville. Twelve teams from throughout the state competed in the tournament. The Chili Peppers went 4-1 overall. Pictured in the front row from the left are Lolo Ashton and Amanda Apelian.

Real California advances in State Cup
      The Real California FC girls U12 soccer team went undefeated in pool play at State Cup in Bakersfield, winning three games and advancing to the round of 32. Real California scored 11 goals and allowed only three scores in three games combined.

Scoring on Viewpoint's boys' soccer team has been a tough task
      This defense never rests. The Viewpoint boys' soccer team compiled a 15-1-6 overall record during the regular season, winning the Liberty League championship. Senior forward Spencer Brown led the Patriot offensive attack with 26 goals and six assists. Evan Raynr, a playmaking sophomore midfielder, scored nine times and logged a team-high seven assists.

Local wrestlers working together in preparation for CIF Individuals
      This past week Thousand Oaks High seemed to be the best place to start a fight. Of course, if you weren't one of the best high school wrestlers in the area, it may have been the worst. With the wrestling season winding down, TOHS hosted practices that included most Marmonte League teams as well as squads from outside the league such as Camarillo and Chaminade.

Eagles trust in teamwork
Oak Park boys' basketball team preps for the playoffs
      The shot didn't go in, and the Oak Park boys' basketball team lost the game. But if he had to do it all over again, Eagle senior center Kareem Maddox wouldn't change a thing. During Oak Park's final regular-season game last Wednesday against Tri-Valley League rival Oaks Christian, the Eagles had a chance to tie the contest in the final seconds.
