Family gives $112,000 to 3 schools
      Gratitude for the high quality of education the Las Virgenes Unified School District provides has prompted a local family to donate $112,000 to three schools. "This is the largest single gift in the history of the schools," Deputy Superintendent Donald Zimring said at a recent school board meeting where Michael and Laura Gallop's generosity was commended.

Triunfo YMCA announces Model United Nations program
      The Triunfo YMCA will host an introductory meeting for a new government program, Model United Nations, designed for children in grades six through nine, at 7 p.m. tonight, Thurs., Feb. 8, at Oaks Christian School, Disciples Chapel, 31749 La Tienda Drive, Westlake Village. The meeting is open to parents and students.Model United Nations is part of the national YMCA Youth and Government program.

Parenting workshop on sensory issues scheduled
      A free parenting workshop dealing with sensory issues faced by children with autism and other development differences will be presented from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Mon., Feb. 12 at the Oak Park Community Library, 899 Kanan Road, Oak Park. The workshop is sponsored by Ventura County Special Education Local Plan Area.

Oak Park High welcomes new band teacher
      Kids who study music do well in every area of their lives, believes Daniel O'Brien, the new band director at Oak Park High School. "You can learn many things through music. Through ensembles you learn teamwork; you can also realize individual achievement," O'Brien said.
