Redell: Darrell Scott need not apply to Oaks Christian Oaks Christian head football coach Bill Redell has a message for Moorpark High junior running back Darrell Scott: Stay with the Musketeers. Scott, the state's secondleading rusher last season with 3,194 yards, has informed Moorpark athletic director Rob Dearborn that he's planning to transfer, perhaps as early as next week. "I asked him about it because there had been a lot of rumors," Dearborn said. "I asked if it was true, and he said, 'Yes.' It was either St. Bonaventure or Oaks Christian." Redell said he hasn't spoken with Scott, although a man claiming to represent the running back recently left a voicemail with the Lions coach. "He just said Darrell Scott is a very fine student- I don't know if he's a good student or a bad student, I have no idea- and that he's going to be transferring and he was interested in Oaks Christian." Redell later returned the call, but hasn't heard anything since. The coach remains skeptical if the original call was even legit. "I would encourage Scott to stay at Moorpark and not apply to Oaks Christian," Redell said. "We're not interested in Scott transferring to Oaks Christian." Scott has been reluctant to speak with the media thus far. On Tuesday, Moorpark administrators said Scott was still enrolled at the school. Several students, however, said Scott is already long gone. Musketeer head coach Tim Lins said Scott never informed the coaching staff of his decision to leave the school. That information was relayed to him by Dearborn. "Sure, we're disappointed," Lins said. "But Darrell has the right to do what's best for him. We're going to move on." During Moorpark's playoff run this year, Scott hinted that he'd be moving on after the season ended. At the time, he said his mother was getting married and that he would be going with her to her new home. Per CIF-Southern Section rules, Scott would have to move to the area of his new school to remain eligible to play football next season. St. Bonaventure head coach John Mack did not return a phone call on Wednesday seeking comment. |
