Sign up for new spring soccer league
      X-League Soccer Academy is offering a developmental spring youth soccer league, for players in the U6, U7 and U8 divisions, that will begin March 11. Players must be born after Aug. 1, 1998. X-League's goal is to bring out the natural talents and abilities of each player by providing them with professional, ageappropriate soccer training in a supportive, positive environment.

Professional teams announced for Amgen Tour
      Three top professional road cycling teams will compete in the 2007 Amgen Tour of California Feb. 18 through 25, according to Shawn Hunter, president of AEG Sports, promoter and operator of the 650-mile, eight-stage cycling race modeled after the Tour de France.

Agoura girls' water polo team jumps all over Calabasas
      During the second half at Agoura High on Monday afternoon, Calabasas girls' water polo team did a good job of keeping up with the Chargers. Unfortunately for the Coyotes, by the second half the Chargers were so far ahead that they began playing their junior varsity team.

      With two outofstate tournaments the next two weekends and hopes of making the state playoffs, the Southern California Midget 18AAA ice hockey team has come together and learned how to win in its inaugural season.

Oak Park gets defensive
Boys' soccer team works through early-season problems near the net
      This past November, the boys' soccer team at Oak Park seemed lost on defense when it gave up seven goals in its first scrimmage. Things didn't get any better in their first official game of the season against Channel Islands when the Eagles promptly gave up another seven goals.

Former WHS soccer star named All-American
      Sienna Kluck-Escoto played extremely well for the women's soccer team at Ventura Junior College this year. This weekend, Kluck-Escoto will be honored for her play when she receives an award for being named to the 2006 NSCAA/Adidas Women's Junior College Division III AllAmerica Second Team.

For the record
      Last week's story on L.A. Dodgers catcher Mike Lieberthal announcing that he'd signed a one-year, $1.15 million contract with the team for the upcoming season did not mention the catcher's contract also includes a $100,000 buy-out if his services are not retained in 2008.
