Agoura Hills resident to chair Cancer Society operations group
Woodrow Brokenburr to work with CEO to recruit and train volunteers, staff
The California Division of the American Cancer Society appointed Woodrow Brokenburr of Agoura Hills as chair of its operations group, which serves as a communication link between the state-level division office and the local and regional offices. This is the third appointment of Brokenburr to this position. Brokenburr will work with the CEO to design programs to recruit, retain and recognize a diverse corps of volunteers and staff; review the implementation of communications activities, and provide guidance to the Discovery Shop operations, which sell highquality, gentlyused donated merchandise to help fund cancer research, programs and patient services at 41 locations in California. Brokenburr began volunteering with the society in 1998 and has held leadership positions in many of the Relay For Life initiatives. He was appointed to the National Relay For Life Project Team and is also a research stakeholder, participating in the review and selection of the research projects funded by the society. Brokenburr was recently elected to the national assembly, which elects the national board of directors and officers and the nominating committee, as well as approves corporate bylaw changes, division charters and charter requirements. Brokenburr participates in the National Urban League’s Black Executive Exchange Program as visiting professor at historically black colleges and universities. He is past president and chairman of the board of the Thousand Oaks-Westlake Village Chamber of Commerce, a former loan ex ecutive with United Way and a community task force member of the Superior Court of Ventura County. He holds a master’s degree in business administration.
