Divisive council Government at its best or government at its worst? Our system of government worked precisely the way it was designed by our founders. When there is a strong difference of opinion in a tightly contested issue, bringing that question to the people of the community to decide the issue is government working at its best, just as it was designed to do. However, City Council crossed the line between good government and personal vendettas when it acted to punish Jim Bruno for doing his job. As a representative of the people, Jim Bruno felt strongly on an issue and fought in a proper manner to bring information and the facts to his constituents. That is not only his job, but his responsibility. In the case of Proposition Z, it turns out that he was right, as a majority of the people agreed with him on that issue. The council has disgraced itself by the actions it has taken. If there was ever a question of "lack of unity" in the city of Westlake Village, the council, by its shameful actions, has driven a wedge further into the community, which it should immediately rectify.
Our system of government worked at its best. If there is
a serious doubt, let the people decide. The Westlake Village Council showed us
government at its worst. | |||||
