Audubon Society planning field trips

The Conejo Valley Audubon Society will sponsor various birding field trips in January.

On Sat., Jan. 6, the group will visit Lake Casitas. Meet at Las Posas park-and-ride at 8 a.m. or at the lake at 8:30 a.m. Among the birds to see will be ducks, grebes, sparrows, hawks and woodpeckers. For more information, call Tom Halpin at (805) 746-4598.

Santa Clara River Estuary will be the site of the Sun., Jan. 21 trip. Meet at 8 a.m. at Las Posas parkand-ride or 8:30 a.m. at Surfer’s Knoll parking lot on Spinnaker in

Ventura Harbor. The group will look for shorebirds, ducks, Snowy Plovers, Black-necked Stilts, American Avocets, gulls, grebes and loons. For more information, call Kevin Picard at (805) 4926962.

Birders will visit Simi Valley areas on Sat., Jan. 27. Meet at 2 p.m. at Rancho Simi Park on the Erringer side. Participants will look for ducks, herons, passerines, then visit the Arroyo Simi and the Ferruginous Hawk roost. For more information, call Chrystal Klabunde at (805) 522-8023.
