New president/CEO for Boys & Girls Club

Jan Sobel has been appointed president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley, according to chairman Gary Thomas.

Previously president/CEO of the Carlsbad and Encino Chambers of Commerce, Sobel is a Valley native and graduate of CSUN. She has received several awards for her achievements in the Chamber field and teaches nonprofit management, fundraising and other courses at the Western Association of Chamber Executives’ Academy.

Sobel will continue in her current role as director of community relations for Gelb Enterprises in addition to her work with the Boys & Girls Club.

The Boys & Girls Club of the West Valley was founded in 1995 as a response to the need for safe, productive activities for youth during nonschool hours. Two years ago, the club moved into its current permanent facility in Canoga Park where major building renovations are being planned.

There are more than 500 members of the club, and approximately 100 youngsters visit the facility each day. In addition, approximately 150 children are provided after-school activities at Blythe Elementary School.
