Honor roll

The National Council of Teachers of English recently announced that Viewpoint School senior Jacob Combs, of Hidden Hills, has been honored as an outstanding writer in the council’s 49th annual Achievement Awards in Writing.

The awards recognize writing excellence based on students’ samples of their best prose or verse and on impromptu themes that students write under supervision.

A team of English teachers chosen from the students’ home state judges the writing, looking especially for writing that demonstrates effective and imaginative use of language to inform and move an audience.

This year, the council chose 606 students as outstanding writers.
