Teachers need more love After writing a letter in support of our teachers and their dedication, I am dumbfounded at the amount of criticism and lack of credit that teachers are receiving in your letters to the editor section for their enormous contribution to society. Although we all hold the valuable right to our opinion and certainly to our First Amendment rights, it amazes me that these critics of teachers think they could have even known how to write a letter if it wasn’t for the teachers in their lives. Parents don’t and can’t take the credit for academically schooling their children without the enormous contribution that teachers make in their children’s lives. How else could we turn a child into a scientist that researches cures for disease, astronauts that explore our universe or doctors that save lives without teachers? That notion is preposterous and it would almost be funny if it weren’t so insulting to teachers. I shudder to think about sitting in a doctor’s office, hoping for a cure, only to learn that your doctor was self-taught. Anyone out there want laser eye surgery or an organ transplant from a guy that can’t read or write? Where would any of us be without teachers from kindergarten through college and into future technology? Nowhere. There really are amazing teachers that contribute greatly to our lives and thankfully, there always will be. Noel and John Potter Agoura Hills |
