City’s leadership falls under fire After last week’s performance at the City Council meeting to elect the new mayor of Westlake Village, the community must seriously question the judgment of some of the “leaders” of our city. These city council members would attempt to have us, those they serve, believe that their actions last week were “healing” divisions within the city, when in actuality they were fomenting more dissension than ever. In fact, the actions of these council members belied their words, for they prepared in advance for the anger they knew their words would engender by having on hand an extra force of sheriffs to intimidate their constituents. Many of us had heard the rumors of this planned retribution, but none of us could quite bring ourselves to believe that our elected representatives would behave with such outlandish disrespect of tradition and so against the wishes of their citizens. Nor could we fathom such juvenile behavior in purposefully and publicly humiliating another of the duly elected members of their body, one with whom they have carried on a quite public feud over the Measure Z issue. Yet, these same council members would try to convince us that their actions had nothing to do with the resounding defeat of that measure, and therefore of the public support these same council members had thrown behind it.
