More thoughts about the flag

I am 10 years old and active in recycling and conservation projects because I care about my environment. I used in live in Liberty Canyon and it made me sad to see how these little throwaway flags were trashed after the Fourth of July, sunfaded, soiled and lackluster.

I was also at the Calabasas Lake on July 4 where I saw hundreds of plastic flags on the corner of Park Sorrento and Park Granada near my doctor's office. I'm frustrated to know that these plastic flags eventually end up in the Calabasas landfill, piling up for millions of years as they slowly decompose. The sight of American flags rotting in a local dump does not arouse patriotism in me, nor is it "exhilarating" as Carol Lane states.

Finally, it's not a "truly beautiful sight' as Robert West claims. It's sickening. Adults are supposed to be role models of good stewardship for kids.

Plastic debris that falls into the storm drains pollutes our ocean and millions of sea animals die each year from ingesting plastic rubbish. If people respect the flag and love their country so much, buy yourself and your neighbors traditional flags and show the respect the local realtor doesn't have for our flag, our litter laws, our trespassing laws, our sea life and our earth.
