Cleaning up Oak Park

Oak Park residents will be given an opportunity to further beautify their already verdant community on Aug. 5.

Between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., G.I. Industries and Ventura County will host drop-off refuse collection at Oak Park High School parking lot to allow residents to dispose of certain materials.

Items that will be accepted include electronic waste, computer equipment, televisions, VCRs, cellphones, fax machines, CD players, residential yard waste, wood, lumber, metal and cardboard.

"Any activity that adds to the quality of the community is a great thing," said Todd Haines, the chair of the Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council.

Tires, paint and hazardous waste will not be accepted. To properly dispose of these items, call (805) 449-7283 to schedule a free drop-off in Thousand Oaks.

G.I. Industries also performs bulky item collection at homes. To schedule a pickup, call G.I. Industries at (818) 782-2474.

For more information about the collection event, call Ventura County at (805) 658-4320.
