Worried about new mayor We've had a few issues through the years but none as divisive as Measure Z. For full disclosure, I voted yes, but I'm not going to revisit the decision here. I bring that up because I am going to ask Councilman Jim Bruno to withdraw from consideration to be the next mayor of Westlake Village. I don't say this because he was supporting the no position. I say this because I have questions about Councilman Bruno's ability to reunify the city and the City Council. During the battle over Lowe's, Bruno led people to believe that the city has the authority to build whatever the city wanted on that property. In a letter in the Jan. 26 Acorn, he listed many of the suggestions put forth by some citizens of Westlake Village. Well, start to imagine a big box four-story office building because that is what we are going to get. There will be many disappointed residents who voted no on Z because they truly believed that a park, miniature golf course, bowling alley or one of those other great suggestions was going on that property. As a leader in this city, Councilman Bruno had the responsibility to make sure that the facts were clear. The property is zoned for office buildings. Does he no longer believe that the landholder essentially has the right to build and no one has the right to stop him? This city needs a mayor who, regardless of which position they take on an issue, will be straight with its citizens. Mr. Bruno, please start by removing your name for consideration as our next mayor.
