Young men called to the Torah
      Max Nutkiewicz was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah at Temple Etz Chaim on Nov. 4. He is the son of Karen and Allan Nutkiewicz of Westlake Village and an eighth-grader at Colina Middle School. Taylor Bronte was called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah at Temple Etz Chaim on Nov. 11.

Pastor wants his church to invest in people, not buildings
Congregation wants to serve community
      As a congregation whose meeting place is at a motel in Agoura Hills, the Bethel Christian Fellowship is hardly traditional. "We don't want to invest in projects or buildings," said Craig Johnson, an evangelical Protestant clergyman and pastor of the independent, nondenominational church he founded in 1982.

Temple to host guest speaker
      Temple Beth Haverim in Agoura Hills will present Robert Blumenfield of the B'nai Brith Anti-Defamation League at 8 p.m. Fri., Dec. 8 as part of its monthly Shabbat Speaker Series. The temple is 29900 Ladyface Court in Agoura Hills. Blumenfield has been actively involved with the AntiDefamation League for the past several years.
