Top prep boys' basketball teams in action this weekend

The Stoneridge Holiday Prep Classic is being held Friday through Sunday at Calabasas High School.

The boys' basketball tournament has arguably the strongest field of players to ever attend a single event on the west coast, said Mike Mahoney, managing director of Stoneridge School in Simi Valley.

"Stoneridge is pleased to host this inaugural event and hopes that the city will enjoy the level of competition that is synonymous with prep school basketball," Mahoney said. "Boys to Men, Brewster Academy, South Kent School, St. Thomas More and Stoneridge will all be preseason top-20 prep school basketball programs.

"The talent level at this showcase is unbelievable and the numbers are mind-boggling in terms of the number of highly ranked players that will be competing in this

event," Mahoney said. "There are 30 nationally ranked players in the field of teams with 17 players that are top 100 in their respective classes, with 12 of them already making verbal commitments to major college programs."

Tickets will be available. Three-game tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and children. CHS students and Simi Valley residents will be charged $5.

There will also be an "all access" full event pass available for $25 for adults and $15 for students and children.

There will be three games on Friday and Saturday beginning at 4, 6 and 8 p.m. Sunday's action gets underway at 11 a.m., and will be followed by afternoon games at 1 and 3 p.m.
