City completes bus safety video

To remind residents about the importance of bus safety, the city of Westlake Village shot a film called "Ride the Bus" this past weekend on city streets.

When completed in the next two weeks, the 10- to 15-minute video will be shown on local Channel 10. The film addresses safety issues on the bus and how to get on and off the bus safely. Advice on driving near buses is also offered.

"This film is just a reminder to motorists to slow down and proceed with caution," said Westlake community relations coordinator Kerry Kallman.

The public transit buses are not like school buses, with gates that come down warning motorists to stop. Drivers are not required to stop and wait for general transit buses.

"Westlake Transit has a great safety record and this is a way to encourage that to continue," Kallman said.

The city's in-house crew and about 16 local elementary school students participated in the filmmaking.
