Marc Tyler or Darrell Scott, who's the better college football prospect?

Acorn Newspapers editors Kyle Jorrey and Stephen Dorman debate which running back has the most skills

Dorman Dorman I love Marc Tyler. In fact, I like him a lot more than I like you, Jorrey. But that's neither here nor there.

If, however, you forced me to choose between the two talented tailbacks, Tyler or Darrell Scott, I'd go with my man from Moorpark, Scott.

Tyler has the pedigree, the CIF championships, the national hype and so forth. He's an outstanding ball carrier with catlike quickness who can catch the football out of the backfield. He also plays a mean linebacker.

There's nothing not to like about Marc Tyler.

To me, though, Scott has tremendous upside. He's a workhorse ball carrier who's big, strong, physical and fast-really fast.

At 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, Scott posted the top time in the 100 and 200meter dashes at last year's Marmonte League Track and Field Championships. A sophomore at the time, he was clocked at 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters.

In his second varsity season on the gridiron, Scott has rushed for 2,250 yards-the fourth highest total in the state-and has scored 31 touchdowns. He ranks ahead of Tyler in both categories.

While he doesn't play defense, a la Tyler, Scott has been a crucial part of Moorpark's kicking game, serving as the team's punter and kickoff specialist.

So, to answer the question, I think both guys will make tremendous college football players, Scott on my team and Tyler on yours.

We already know Tyler's committed to USC. Scott, just a junior, still has a choice to make, and trust me, there isn't a college program it the country that doesn't covet his services.

What remains to be seen, Jorrey, is how you're going to react when these two are running wild on Saturday afternoons.

Coming soon to a sports establishment near you: "Did you see that play by Tyler?" Jorrey asks, loudly. "There goes Scott! I told you, those are my guys! Whew hoo . . . Go . . . Go . . . Go . . . Yes!!!"
