Westlake girls' golfers tops in the Marmonte League

After winning the Marmonte League championship last week and finishing the regular season with a 13-1 record, the Westlake High girls' golf team failed to advance after competing in the CIF-Southern Section Northern Team Divisional Tournament Monday afternoon at River Ridge Golf Course.

Though the Warriors' season is now over, the team played an impressive match Monday by finishing in eighth place out of 20 teams. Only the top four advance.

"I told my team not to get down," WHS head coach Dave Costley said. "We've had a super year, one of the best we've ever had, and I told my girls to not let this one match spoil it." Many girls played well at the

tournament, including senior Katie Deutsch, who shot a 79 on the par-72 course. Deutsch's score tied her for 13th place out of 200 golfers.

Sophomore Tiffany Uichanco shot an 85, and sophomore Kate Catena shot a 92.

Costley said the team should be competitive for years to come.

"We are very young," Costley said. "Out of the 11 players we had on our team this season, only two were seniors and none were juniors. We will miss Katie (Deutsch) next year, but everyone else will be back.
