Yes on Measure H6 The aims of Oak Park Measure H6 are to increase the safety and productivity of school buildings -many of which have not been touched or renovated for 40 years. The security and fire systems at all of the campuses need updating. At Brookside Elementary School the library is extremely small and not nearly adequate to hold the appropriate number of books for an elementary school or to provide space for research, reading groups or directed lessons. The temporary classrooms at all of the campuses are dilapidated in that they were meant to last only 25 years but have been utilized by the district for 40 years. And currently, special education personnel are segregated in trailers in the parking lot behind the district offices. There are many more examples of facilities in our district that are now unsafe and unusable. For that reason, it is very important that we vote "yes" on Measure H6 on Nov. 7. Allison Brightman Oak Park The OPUSD bond measure H6 not only invests in our children, but it also invests in the future of Oak Park. With the addition of solar panels that will provide clean, renewable energy the school district will save an estimated $500,000 in electricity costs per year. With drought tolerant landscaping the district will use hundreds of thousands of fewer gallons of water per year, saving both water and money. As a proud father of three I can tell you that we came for the schools and the community. Both assets are being preserved and protected with H6. Wickham Irwin Oak Park |
