Yes on H6 Vote yes on H6. Our schools desperately need repairs. We have roofs that leak, extremely outdated plumbing and electrical wiring. We have 40-year-old portable buildings that were intended to be used for 20 years. If H6 doesn't pass, the most likely date to put another bond measure on the ballot will be 2010. Construction costs are only going to continue to increase and it will just cost more. School bond measures are the only way to repair schools. States expect schools to pay for major repairs and renovations by passing local bond measures. Did you know the "repair" budget for the seven schools in our district is about $150,000? Put children's education first and keep Oak Park a premier school district. Make the logical decision and vote yes on H6. Lisa Welin Oak Park True, the H6 school bond is a lot of money, but it was a lot of money and a generation of sacrifice that built our school system. We are fortunate living in Oak Park to have reaped the rewards of those sacrifices. Shouldn't we now invest in the next generation? Of course, we all want to know that our taxes are being spent wisely, and we do not want to unnecessarily burden ourselves. That is why we should call upon those who mistrust our officials to take part in being the watchdogs of our money. They should sit on the committees, get well-informed with the facts and put in the hours of hard work that it takes to build and maintain a community infrastructure. The community needs people to step up and provide leadership. It should be our commitment and faith in the future generation that should help us make our choice. Teri Smolarski Oak Park |
