Yes on H6 For the past couple of weeks there is reference in The Acorn letters critical of solar technology in the Oak Park school facilities bond measure H6. Let me provide some facts. The district's second largest utility bill is electricity. A solar contractor estimates a conservative return on investment as 6.91 years. The school district will save about half of the total electric bill a year in general fund money every year. As rates rise, so will savings. Additionally, solar panels are guaranteed for 25 years. Also, due to a new state program there would be a $2 million rebate on the project. Solar technology is just plain smart. You will find this same degree of thought and research has gone into each line item in H6. As edu cators, we are asking our community to do what they have always done since 1977-support the schools. It is now time to undertake some serious renovation in our schools. Quality schools benefit everyone, students as well as every property owner in Oak Park. Maintain high achievement and at the same time maintain high property values and everyone wins. Please vote Yes on H6. Jim Kalember President, OPUSD |
