Truth hard to find in Lowe's debate

No one really knows whether passage of Measure Z will be ultimately good or bad for Westlake Village, but it is difficult to decide when the arguments made by its opponents are nothing more than fear mongering and do nothing to make their case. The real issue is whether the extra traffic and development that will be brought about in an already congested and heavily-developed area is worth the additional $700,000 in annual tax revenues that passage of Measure Z will bring.

Win or lose, there will be more traffic and more development in that area. As for losing our village character, whose definition of "character" gave us the collection of office buildings and strip malls we now have on Lindero Canyon Road?

Whether we like it or not, we are stuck with what we have, and passing Measure Z probably won't make it as bad as its opponents want us to fear. But it won't make it any better, either. All we know for sure is we'll have a fatter city treasury. Dan von der Embse Westlake Village
