Pedestrian hit on Halloween

A 13-year-old Oak Park boy was hit by a car on Halloween night after attempting to cross Kanan Road, south of Tamarind Street.

The boy, whose name was not released, suffered a head wound and was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Arauza.

The injured teen was one of three boys attempting to run across the road, "right in the path of oncoming traffic," Arauza said.

"That's an unmarked intersection," the officer said. "There are no markings, no pedestrian lighting. Even in daytime I wouldn't run across there."

Arauza recommends pedestrians use lighted intersections when crossing Kanan Road.

The boy was hit by an Oak Park resident driving a compact car.
