New hope, laser for far-sighted eyes

The Laser Eye Center is among the first refractive surgery center to make the new state-of-the-art LADAR6000 Excimer Laser available in Southern California for vision correction procedures.

The laser was recently approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration for Lasik and PRK refractive surgery, and for the wavefrontguided treatment of farsightedness with or without astigmatism.

With the new laser now installed in five surgical centers, Laser Eye Center will be among the first to offer laser vision correction to people who are farsighted, or who have difficulty seeing objects close up, with the wavefront-guided CustomCornea procedure.

Previously, only people affected by nearsightedness, or people who had difficulty seeing objects at a distance, could be treated with CustomCornea.

"The addition of the new LADAR6000 laser to our practice provides us with a unique opportunity to meet a broad spectrum of our patient's vision correction needs," said one of the center's surgeons.

"Roughly onefourth of the population is affected by farsightedness, and with the use of the CustomCornea procedure in the treatment of farsighted patients we can ensure that they enjoy the same successes that our nearsighted patients have realized with the CustomCornea procedure."

According to the center's surgeons, the new laser reduces the amount of time required to perform the procedure.
