Measure Z full of 'surprises'

Calling those who oppose Measure Z, whether directly or by implication, untruthful and lacking in integrity is not only uncalled for, unproductive and hurtful, it's wrong.

Mr. Coffey, in his letter last week, throws out blanket ac- cusations without a shred of actual proof. Exactly what is distorted in pointing to the fact that Lowe's grants itself the right to open operations at 6 a.m., one hour earlier than the City Council wanted and had required, and an hour earlier than the city's own noise ordi- nance permits?

You needn't rely on me. Just go to the city's website at www.wlv.org, click on "Elec- tions" and read the "Plain Lan- guage Description" prepared by the city attorney at the di- rection of the council, specifi- cally page 4, Item 12, and then click on "City Hall," and un- der "Other" click "Municipal Code" and go to Article 4, which prohibits the type of noise associated with the op- eration of a Lowe's between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Councilmember Jim Bruno was correct when he stated that Measure Z gives Lowe's "special benefits and con- trols," and it's right there for everyone to verify, so it's not intended to scare, rather to fully inform

And conditions regarding hours of operation and day la- borers are just a couple among many, 108 to be precise, that Lowe's put in their initiative, and that you should be certain you agree with before voting on Measure Z. Unless, of course, you like surprises. Barbara Erickson Westlake Village
