To the dozens of dogs of all sizes and varieties that live in Westlake Village, the battle be- tween Fed Ex and UPS has been won by the Big Brown, paws down.

Five days a week, package or no package, UPS driver Steve stops his van to deliver a dog bis- cuit to the resident canine(s), much to the delight of their moms and dads. As they hear his van approach, often from far away, dogs like Katie L, who protects her family home in the Triunfo West condos, race to their doors, ears perked to the now-familiar sound, tails wag- ging in anticipation of the daily treat.

As for my husband and me, Steve performs a simple yet very effective kindness that translates into UPS being the recipient of all our overnight service business.
