Cyclists beware

DANGEROUS SITUATION-Two photos, taken within one minute of each other, show how cars encroach on the bike lane while traveling east on Agoura Road. I've been increasingly worried about the difference in speed and size of vehicles in auto traffic lanes and those in the bicycle lanesLarge cars and trucks at high speed blast past bikers, walkers, joggers and children, separated by mere inches. I watch people in cars cross that car/bike line every single day while they follow the curves on Agoura Road, just to the west of Kanan Road.

The recent heartbreaking acci- dent involving avid cyclist DrGlenn Garvin on Westlake Boule- vard is an example of this increas- ing danger. To help avoid this haz- ard, I propose that we add bumps along the dividing stripe like those used to separate freeway lanesThey would act as a relatively low- cost buffer to remind drivers not to cross that line.

I further propose that we cre- ate a fund named in Dr. Garvin's honor. This fund would help pro- vide the necessary money for this lifesaving feature while paying tribute to his unfortunate and un- timely passing.

Let's admit our bike lanes aren't safe, then let's also do some- thing to remedy the situation be- fore anyone else is hurt. Bob Fryer Westlake Village
