Book group

On Wed., Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. the Malibu Book Discussion Group will feature a live reading of selections from the play "Inherit the Wind" by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee with a discussion to follow.

Readers Theater is providing ac- tors for the meeting. Readers The- ater, which celebrated its seventh an- niversary in June 2006, draws on volunteer actors from Los Angeles and Ventura counties to prepare pre- sentations for community groups.

The play reading will feature, Jim Casey, Porter Fowler and Bonnie Jean of Calabasas, Wayne Collier and Regina Mocey of Agoura Hills, Andrew Fuller of Los Angeles, Tom Puckett of Sherman Oaks and Ron Rezac of Ventura.

The Malibu Book Discussion Group has been meeting weekly for almost 20 years. The group meets on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the club house of the Pt. Dume Mobile Home Park, 29500 W. Heathercliff Road in Malibu. Reservations are required. There is no admission or dues charged.

The Malibu and Agoura Hills branches of the County of Los An- geles Public Library support this ac- tivity by making copies of the plays available for actors and the reading group members to borrow. The Agoura Hills Library and the city of Calabasas Library have provided rehearsal space for Readers Theater.

The next readings scheduled for Readers Theater are "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Will- iams for the Motion Picture and Tele- vision Fund on Nov. 18, and "Bare- foot in the Park" by Neil Simon.

Whimsical puppets

Children ages 4 to 8 can watch "Zee and Friend's Whimsical Pup- peteers" at noon, Sat., Sept. 30 at the City of Calabasas Library, Calaba- sas Park Centre, Bldg. B, First Floor, 23975 Park Sorrento St. The event is sponsored by Unique Care and Unique Care Nonprofit.

The featured guests are Zee and her friends as they tell stories. "Zee's Adventures" was Unique Care's August book of the month. Zee is a fantasy where a simple misunder- standing leads to big, but happy, con- sequences. Zee's magical compan- ions include Pook the bookcase, Pikabu the butterfly and Zippy the hummingbird. Zee, a little girl, trav- els through an enchanted doorway to other worlds. After the puppet show, children will have the opportunity to make their own puppets.

Families will also be able to buy Zee's books and the author will be present for book signing. Twenty percent of the book sale proceeds will go to the Unique Care Nonprofit fund for quality children's programs.
