Chabad celebrates High Holy Days
HOLY WALK-Rabbi Yossi Bryski of Chabad of the Conejo, left, leads the Tashlich walk with his wife, Shterni, and their children last Sunday. The walk, described as "rich in significance and meaning," began at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza and continued to Westlake Lake where participants symbolically "cast away their sins." The walk was part of Rosh Hashanah observances. Chabad of the Conejo urges all Jews to attend Yom Kippur Services, which begin with the Kol Nidre service at 6:15 p.m. on Sun., Oct.1. Ser- vices will continue at 9:30 a.m. Mon., Oct. 2.
The Yizkor memorial service will be at noon fol- lowed by Neilah services at 5:15 p.m. The Yom Kippur fast will end on Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
The Chabad rabbis are ap- pealing to every Jew of the community, observant or nonobservant, member or nonmember, affiliated or non- affiliated, to spend the holy day of Yom Kippur by attend- ing services.
"Chabad's doors will be open to every Jew, for on this holy day all Jews must be united and undivided," said Rabbi Moshe Bryski.
A traditional service is blended with contemporary and meaningful insights mak- ing the Yom Kippur service a link between past and present, Bryski said. Insights into many of the prayers and cus- toms are explained during the services.
Almost two dozen educa- tors and rabbinical students will hold services for the hun- dreds of children who are ex- pected to attend. The children's program includes prayers, stories, songs, con- tests and prizes.
A teen service will be held, as well as a program for chil- dren with special needs.
Services are at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza Hotel, 880 South Westlake Blvd. Addi- tional services will take place at Chabad of Westlake Vil- lage, 2524 Townsgate Road; in Thousand Oaks at the Los Robles Greens Golf Course, 299 S. Moorpark Road; and in Calabasas at Calabasas High School, 22855 Mulholland Hwy.
