Be part of history

Is grandma's old quilt still up in the attic and you don't know what to do with it? Got a bunch of ancient do-hickies and you're not sure what they are, but you know that they're old? The city of Agoura Hills has created a wish list of period items it would like to acquire for the Reyes Adobe Historical Site. These items will go on display at the adobe to re- flect California rancho living in the early 1800s.

Needed items include a rope frame bed, straw bed, hide cot, quilts and period bedding, dress- ers, wooden chairs and/or benches, tables, lamps, fireplace irons, toys, cradle, kitchenware (baskets, stone bowls, copper pots, utensils), blankets, rugs, hides, bed rolls, washbowls and pitchers, chamber pots, candles, toiletries, native American goods, musical instruments of the era (es- pecially a guitar), Catholic reli- gious items and pictures. For out- doors and the barn, the city would like to obtain a bench, saddles, blankets, tack for horses, and branding irons.

The Reyes Adobe is the old- est home in the Agoura area and is documented in the Library of Congress. The site joins other ranchos in Los Angeles and Ven- tura counties that help preserve early California history for edu- cational and public programs. In addition to acquiring the actual items for displays, the city would accept donations to purchase the needed artifacts.
