Other local football matchups
Hart (1-2) at Westlake (2-0)
GOOD GRAB-Kyle Benton of Oak Park dives for a pass during last Friday's game against Calabasas. The Eagles prevailed, 42-7. Outlook: Warrior quarterback Ryan Campbell has done a fine job of spreading the ball around during a pair of early-season victories, as six WHS players have posted two or more receptions so far.
While running back Byron Sells handles the majority of the team's carries, Michael Streck-Woodard, who's averaging 13.8 yards per attempt, has made the most of his time toting the football.
It's been the play of the Warrior defense, however, that's allowed Westlake to start the season undefeated. The unit has given up only 14 points in eight quarters of play.
Following a pair of losses to St. Bonaventure and Moorpark, Hart defeated Bishop Amat last week.
Channel Islands (1-2)
at Calabasas (0-2)
Outlook: After taking a step forward during a one-point defeat in Week 1, the Coyotes regressed last Friday at Oak Park with a 427 loss to the Eagles.
At Oak Park, the Calabasas offense was nowhere to be found for much of the game until Cameron Ventura scored a 65yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to prevent an OPHS shutout.
Obviously, the Coyote offense must play better at home against Channel Islands, a team that's only allowed 39 points in three games.
With the daunting Marmonte League schedule on the horizon, this appears to be Calabasas' best opportunity to get into the win column this season.
