Hero on campus

Last Wednesday upon dismissal from school, one of my third grade students went outside to meet his mother and grandfather. The story as it was told to me (I did not witness this myself) is that my student's grandfather was sitting down on the edge of an outdoor planter, when suddenly he rolled off and hit the concrete ground.

Fortunately, one of our school's instructional assistants, Mitchell Ehrlich, was nearby. Mr. Ehrlich quickly determined that the grandfather was not breathing, and immediately began administering CPR until emergency authorities arrived.

My student's mother told me yesterday that the grandfather had indeed suffered a heart attack.

Mr. Ehrlich's quick and unselfish thinking saved this man's life.
