Critter Tails

Rescued pair make the ultimate blended family

ORPHANED-Stitch, a motherless kitten, has found an adoptive mother in Lilo, a nursing Chihuahua whose puppies are gone. The two animals, staying with the Scher family of Agoura until they are ready for adoption, have put together an unlikely, but apparently perfect, family. Raquel Scher of Agoura Hills has welcomed an unlikely pair into her home, both rescued from the South Central animal shelter.

Raquel and her daughter Tosha, 19, volunteer for LIFE Animal Rescue in Agoura and have fostered many dogs. They recently brought home a Chihuahua who had given birth. Though her pups were gone, she was still able to nurse.

Shortly after, they brought home a 12-day-old kitten that would have been put to sleep because he had been separated from his mother and could not survive without being bottle fed every two hours.

The pound had put the odd couple together and their hunch paid off.

The two are now happily staying with the Scher family in

Agoura and will be available for adoption in four weeks-staying together, if possible. For now, Lilo, the nursing Chihuahua, has taken on Stitch, the kitten, as her own, feeding him, cleaning him and giving him all the benefits of maternal love.
