Millie Andress will be missed

I read, with sadness, this morning that Millie Andress had passed away. Though our family-Bob, Eileen and Arthur Kahn-were not educationally involved with Millie, we had the good fortune to know Millie inasmuch as Bob was a long-time member (since 1989) of the Oak Park Unified School Board and through interaction at various functions.

Millie served in several capacities for our school district, but when she became principal of Oak View High School, she surely found her niche.

Bob and I would go to open house (those barbecues and ball games were great), graduation and Back-to-School Night. I recall, especially at graduations when the students would accept their diplomas and speak briefly and he/she always said, "I can't imagine getting through high school without the help of the teachers and principal, Ms. Andress."

Parents at various functions would state, "Thank goodness for Oak View High School and Millie Andress. She goes far beyond what is expected of her as a principal."

She and I had luncheon a few times and via e-mail (oh, these modern times) we shared that each of us had a cataract eye surgery.

Bob spoke highly of her ability at Oak View High School and he would be thankful that we had the good fortune to have her on the school district staff-especially at Oak View High School. Eileen Kahn Oak Park
