Daniel Dawson will perform gospel songs

Daniel Dawson Daniel Dawson On Fri., Sept. 8, Spirit Works, the contemporary ministry at West Hills Church, will present gospel singer Daniel Dawson as the next performer in its monthly series of concerts with guest performers, filmmakers and speakers.

In today's gospel world there are countless great singers and musicians, but few voices are more dynamic or soulful than Dawson, a Los Angeles recording artist.

The son of a minister, Dawson grew up playing in the church. He first sought his fortune in music by signing illfated record deals that left him wondering why great promises went unfulfilled. But this was secular music and Dawson found his calling as a minister of music and in writing, recording and producing contemporary gospel tunes.

According to event organizers, Dawson's music has "hints of Fred Hammond and Richard Smallwood but with younger influences . . . he speaks as a contemporary psalmist acknowledging the beauty and majesty of God and all his creation."

Dawson will be joined by a 12-piece band and vocal group for an evening of contemporary gospel worship. Admission is free and open to all.

West Hills Church is at 7475 Fallbrook Avenue, West Hills. For information, call (818) 8876227.
