+It was reported last week that Jim Nielsen, director of secondary education at the district office, is serving as a social science teacher and the boy's head basketball coach at Calabasas High School.

Although there is a new teacher and coach named Jim Nielsen at the high school, it is not the same Jim Nielsen at the district office.

+The Aug. 24 article, "Microchips required on local dogs" neglected to mention that owners of purebred dogs will not be required to spay or neuter their dogs if they are members of a purebred dog club.

The clubs restrict breeding practices to prevent genetic defects and health problems in litters. After the first warning for breeding without proper licesning, the fine is $250, not $40.
