Oak Park grad earns scholarship

Renee Heyman Renee Heyman The California Association of Collectors Educational Scholarship Foundation hosted its inaugural scholarship ceremony on Aug. 10 at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. Oak Park High School graduate Renee Heyman received the second place prize of $2,000 in the contest.

The Westlake Village resident was selected by a panel of judges out of more than 140 applications from students throughout California.

Heyman plans to attend Cornell University in New York this fall with a double major in government and economics. After she graduates from college she plans to continue her education in law school. The money she was awarded will go towards her education, upon acceptance and enrollment.

Applicants were asked to write an essay on "The Proper Use of Credit in the 21st Century." Each finalist received a certificate of appreciation and will have his or her essay published in Collector's Ink, a monthly journal put out by the California Association of Collectors.

Association president-elect Dale Van Dellen was on hand May 25 at the Oak Park High School Senior Awards Night to honor Heyman as one of the three finalists. Heyman is the daughter of Robert and Diana Heyman.
