A backhanded compliment Kudos to Mr. Tom Gdala, city of Calabasas traffic engineer, who's quoted in The Acorn article about A.C. Stelle's traffic pattern change. Specifically, he's suggesting parents drop their children off in the residential area before getting to the Mulholland Highway/Paul Revere intersection. Thankfully, many more residents of Mulwood, especially north of Mulholland Highway, will now join their neighbors in having their mailboxes wrecked by cars turning around in the middle of the street and in their driveways. Even more homeowners can expect to have their sprinklers broken as a result of kids kicking, scuffling, and tripping over them as the kids enter and exit their parents' cars. Happily, many residents parking along the curb can expect an increase number of fender benders as parents illegally turn around in the middle of the street after dropping off their kids. Additional thanks are due to the Las Virgenes Unified School District for consistently ignoring the promises and assertions made in the environmental impact report it prepared to justify placing A.C. Stelle Middle School on Mulholland Highway at Paul Revere. As the article stated, no parking signs are being placed along the internal loop, preventing its use in relieving traffic stacking in the adjacent residential neighborhood. With careless abandon, the LVUSD is ignoring its own EIR's assertions that traffic stacking would be relieved by use of the extra large loop. Kudos also to the Calabasas council member who fatuously continues to insist that children crossing or walking along Mulholland Highway have walked from home to school or school to home, instead of having gotten in or out of a car just up the block. Mulwood residents indeed have much to admire about the integrity exhibited by their public officials. Karmen Brower Calabasas |
