Learn about fire season

During fire season, living in the Santa Monica Mountains can be a balancing act. Residents want to enjoy their homes in the rural environment, but often find themselves in the face of peril.

An upcoming talk by ecologist Richard Halsey before a meeting of the Malibu Creek Watershed Council could be of help.

Halsey has been studying the chaparral ecosystems of Southern California for two decades. His research on local plants and their relationship with fire has given him broad knowledge of the flora and fauna of the region and a practical sense of how best to manage these systems and protect local homeowners.

Halsey will appear at the next Watershed Council meeting at 10 a.m. on Mon., Sep. 11 in city council chambers at Malibu City Hall.
