Local club volleyball team competes in Junior Olympics

The Spectrum Volleyball Club U-16 squad captured the bronze medal in the 2006 Junior Olympic Volleyball Championship held in Minneapolis, Minn.

The team, comprised of local high school students from Westlake, Agoura, Oak Park, Oak Christian, Camarillo and Moorpark, finished pool play with eight wins and only one defeat.

Spectrum claimed victories over teams from Ohio, Missouri, Canada, Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

After beating one Puerto Rican team in the quarterfinals, they lost to another Puerto Rican club in the semifinals.

A difficult four days of play culminated in the team standing on the podium to collect their trophy and having medals placed around their necks.

Spectrum players include Kevin Cochran, Cody McVey, Jacob Ferrin, Thomas Gaulke, Chris Carlson, Nathan Joe, Trevor Taggesell, Scott Kevorken, Brendan Keane, Matt Seyhun and Tyler Brennan.

The team is coached by Travis Schoonover and Gary Brennen. Chris Harger is the club director.
