Children are the key to peace

I would like to respond to Patricia Ahmed's letter. She said there would not be any winners when the Lebanese and Israeli conflict ends. She is wrong. The winners will be the families who can embrace their loved ones once again. The winners will be future generations.

Patricia stated that the Arab-Israeli conflict is the source of instability in the Middle East. If the Arab countries decide, once and for all, to leave Israel alone, there will be peace.

Will that resolve all the terrorist acts within the Middle East? Absolutely not. If Saddam Hussein was capable of killing 1 million Muslims, what do you think the president of Iran will do to those who defy or try to dethrone him? Terrorist regimes are not the modus operandi of Israel. Can you say that for the Lebanese who are supported by terrorist regimes?

Patricia, you speak of educating oneself on Arab-Israel conflicts. It is not the Israeli newspapers that exaggerate the death tolls; it is not the Israeli media that expounds hate and it is not the Israeli people that want to kill. It is understandable why the Arab nations embrace their suicide terrorist children. They're taught by family, friends, neighbors and their leaders that this is all there is here on earth. They are hungry, poor, uneducated and for generations have not known any better. In life we only know what we know until we know more.

The Israelis will never again stand silent. They will protect their nation, their people and their future generations. The conflict will end only when the Arab nations love their children more than they hate Israel. Laurie Stein Oak Park
