Look at Lowe's carefully

I applaud the Westlake Village City Council, especially Mayor Susan McSweeney who, while opposed to the Town Center, followed the will of the registered voters of Westlake Village and voted to place the matter on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Councilmember Bruno should be ashamed of his conduct voting against those citizens who elected him to serve. Councilmember Klessig should be commended as well for withstanding unwarranted personal attacks from Barbara Erickson and doing that which was right.

What is most appalling about this issue is the failure of The Acorn to report and the opponents of the Lowe's Town Center to admit that the "major funding" of this fight is by Jess Ruf/Do-It Center who cares not about "traffic, noise and pollution," as noted by The Acorn in the July 20 lead story, but about interfering in Westlake Village politics while neither living in our fine community nor owning any business within its city limits.

I suggest that The Acorn interview Jess Ruf and publish his comments as to why he and his company are spending thousands of dollars to defeat the Town Center. Have him go on record explaining how the building of Lowe's would impact him personally.

Once this interview is made public, all citizens will then have, combined with the statement by the Westlake Village City Council about the initiative, a complete understanding of the pros and cons of the project and can vote yes or no.

I also hope that the headline on Nov. 8, the day after the election, is not who won or lost but that 100 percent of the registered voters in Westlake Village went to the polls to decide this issue. Barry Florence Westlake Village
