Cellphones are dangerous This letter is in direct response to Howard Benson's nave take on the use of cellphones in vehicles. There was a time not too long ago that parents and caregivers somehow managed to get their children to and from their activities on time and without the use of cellphones. It's not that complicated. What I really want to say to Mr. Benson and all of you who use your phones in the car is this: Wait until your children get their license and get behind that wheel. You will get an attitude adjustment you never wanted to have. As if it isn't nuts enough out there for those of us who've been driving for many years, now your children are out there. Now they have to encounter the person on the phone making the lane change without looking, or come upon the driver on the freeway doing 40 mph because they're concentrating on their conversation instead of their driving. Is it really too much to ask that people who get behind the wheel not to put our children in more danger by simply concentrating on what they're doing and refrain from diverting their attention on a stupid cellphone? How important is that call? Is it more important than the life of a new driver? Or is it all about you and how important it is that you make that call? Think about it and get back to me when your children get behind the wheel. F.E. Johnston Thousand Oaks |
