Local student receives congressional award

Jeff Lyon, 17, Agoura High School senior and Eagle Scout, was recently awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in Washington, D.C., by Rep. Elton Gallegly of the 24th District and John Falk, congressional awards chairman.

Jeff spent two-and-a-half years completing this award, which includes volunteer public service, personal development, physical fitness and expedition/ exploration.

He contributed more than 350 hours of volunteer public service. One of his volunteer projects was restoration of a three-mile segment of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historical Trail.

He also participated in many high school theater productions and is a member of the high school varsity volleyball team.

Jeff has traveled to many American historic places, such as Gettsyburg, Carlsbad Caverns, Yosemite and Indian reservations. While snorkeling on a recent trip to Bora Bora, Jeff set a goal of getting certified as a scuba diver.
