Agoura entertains teens in August The city of Agoura Hills Department of Community Services has several opportunities for youth this summer. Babysitting Youth ages 11 to 15 can learn basic skills and techniques in the upcoming "Babysitter's Training" workshop. The workshop covers the business of babysitting, family interviews, professional behavior, problem solving, telephone safety tips, age-appropriate game selection, household safety, baby basics (diapering, feeding, holding), basic first aid and CPR skills for the child and infant. The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fri., Aug. 18 at the Agoura Hills Recreation Center, 30610 Thousand Oaks Blvd. The cost is $38 plus a $20 materials fee. Self Defense for Women The department will also offer a self defense workshop for females ages 16 and over from 2 to 6 p.m. Sat., Aug. 19 at the Recreation Center for $40. Taught by a second-degree black belt, the workshop will teach participants "how to take charge of their safety instead of leaving it to chance." To register, call (818) 597-7361. Summer Beach Bus The city's Summer Beach Bus program to Zuma Beach will continue making four round trips daily, Monday to Friday, through Aug. 25. Riders need a photo ID in order to board the bus.The service is $1 each way and riders need exact change. Scheduled stops are Lindero Canyon Middle School, Agoura High School and Liberty Canyon/ Agoura Road.Bus schedules may be picked up at Agoura Hills City Hall, the Agoura Hills Recreation Center or the Agoura Hills Library.
