Nature camp for children will explore bugs, birds

Mountains Restoration Trust will feature special guest speakers, including an entomologist and ornithologist, who will bring a variety of insect and bird species to a special nature camp for ages 8 to 12 scheduled for July 24 to 27 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A variety of reptiles and amphibians will also be introduced.

Campers will also enjoy guided hikes, working with scientific tools, hands-on activities, crafts, and games in addition to the workshops led by guest speakers.

"Nature Discovery Camp is a fun way to 'unplug' children from

their standard indoor activities and gives them a healthy and stimulating alternative. Spending time outdoors not only helps children gain a deeper understanding of the importance of nature but also gives them a sense of connection to their natural world," said program director Susan Haugland.

Pre-registration is required and enrollment is limited. For fee information and to make a reservation, call Haugland at (818) 591-1701, ext. 181.

The camp is at Headwaters Corner in Calabasas.
