Vandals set fire to a party boat on Calabasas Lake near Park Sorrento last Saturday night, and released about a dozen other boats into the open water, according to Calabasas resident Amy Koval. Koval lives on Calabasas

Lake and keeps her boat docked behind her home. When she woke up Sunday morning she found several boats floating in the water, and her boat missing.

"There was one boat that was burned beyond all recognition," Koval said. "We didn't even think it was our boat."

Upon further inspection, Koval found burned ropes behind her home. The ropes had secured her boat to the dock. That's when Koval knew it was her boat that burned down.

"Maybe they burned the ropes, thinking it would be a quick way to release the boat, and then the boat caught fire," Koval said. She has no information as to who might have committed the crime.

Koval reported the incident to the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

"There weren't any suspects that were seen and there were no witnesses to the incident," said Lt. Debra Glafkides of the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. "We'll send this over to our arson/explosives detail for them to investigate a possible arson."

Koval said she hopes authorities take the matter seriously and this type of incident doesn't happen again.

"We're probably going to get nothing from insurance," Koval said.

The boat is only several years old and was valued at about $30,000 when new, she said.

Secural Corporation patrols Calabasas Lake between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. The vandalism on Saturday night took place sometime between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. the next morning when security wasn't there, according to a Secural official.

Calabasas Park Homeowners Association officials didn't return phone calls regarding a question about the expansion of security services.
