July Fourth fiasco

It was interesting to note the contrasting article and letter in the July 13 Acorn regarding flags on the Fourth of July. First, we have Jay Perry, manager of Johnny P's, who came upon several young people attempting to remove more than 800 flags on display in front of his restaurant. The 21-year-old male driving the truck should have been prosecuted. Also, I don't believe that the kids were stealing the flags to place them "by their house."

Then we have the letter by Larry Brown, who complained about a realtor going through his neighborhood and placing little American flags in front of the houses. He considers this to be a cheesy display of salesmanship. Then he brings in politics, acknowledging that he is a Democrat.

When I awaken on the Fourth of July, I am very pleased and exhilarated to see American flags in our yards in my neighborhood. I would be willing to bet that Mr. Brown has never flown a flag at his house on the Fourth of July, Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Carol Lane Oak Park
