Ban the ban

Why is it that the elected officials in the area served by The Acorn always want to ban something or stop something from happening? The latest is the Styrofoam proposed ban in Calabasas.

A very effective way of disposing of this product is to reuse it intelligently. Wash the cup, foam meat package, foam vegetable container, etc., in the dishwasher with the regular dishes. The hot water, combined with the chlorine in the soap and the drying heat, will kill and disinfect the plastic.

When it dries, break it into 1inch to 2-inch irregular pieces and use it for shipping business packages, gifts to friends or wherever else fragile items need extra protection. It works great as a lightweight filler for boxes and, if given to businesses, it saves them money from buying the foam popcorn and will last in the cycle for many cross-country trips and it will help clean up the mess.

Let the city of Calabasas set up collection points for the clean, washed pieces. Jim Ruddy Westlake Village
